Responsibilities:
This position is primarily responsible for generating, publishing, and disseminating news related to District 155 and its schools to support the district's brand.
The communications specialist will utilize multiple communications media to target the district's students, parents, community members, and employees.
The position coordinates with faculty, coaches/sponsors, and district/school administrators to identify and create compelling stories.
He/she will utilize appropriate communication methods to distribute each piece of information:
district/school sites, social media, news releases, videos, photos, etc.
Requirements:
Candidates should possess experience in journalism, communications or public relations and hold a BA in communications, journalism, or related discipline.
Creative thinker with the ability to identify and publicize interesting and meaningful stories.
Prior experience managing and developing content in a large, multiple-site, multiple-user environment.
Experience with radio/TV production, video and audio storytelling, and editing.
Experience with web management, development, and publishing, and web-based mediums including streaming video, podcasts, etc.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with a service-oriented focus.
Monitor media coverage and social media and collaborate with local press to pitch stories.
Understanding of security and student data/information issues.
Capability of meeting multiple deadlines.
Knowledge of AP Style.
Specific Duties:
Coordinates and creates content for school and district websites and other digital channels.
Produces, films, and edits short videos to promote the district/schools and employees.
Photographs, edits, creates graphics for promotional materials and digital channels.
Strategizes and coordinates content for district/school websites and social media to support the district's strategic plan.
Grows the audience for district postings made with digital media.
Optimizes end-user experience by monitoring analytics and other key indicators.
Provides crisis communications support as needed and utilizes mass notification system and alerts.
All duties as assigned by the director of communications.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, see, hear, and type on a computer or device.
The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, use stairs, or crouch.
In addition, the employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
